Biography
My dedication to education and training began as an instructor. Wanting to share my passion for education beyond the classroom walls, I left teaching to become an administrator. I held various positions at the building and district level including Coordinator of Staff and Curriculum Development; Supervisor of Instructional Technologies; Associate Director of Operations; Director of Career and Technical Education; and Principal, giving me experience in many facets of education with expertise in instructional and organizational leadership.
I earned an associate's degree (AOS) in Hotel Technology/Culinary Arts, a bachelor's degree (BS) in Hospitality Management, a master's degree (M.S.Ed.) in Education, and a doctorate (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership. As an adjunct professor, at the post-secondary level, I taught “Methods of Instruction” and “Supervision of Education”. I also enjoy presenting at local, regional, and state conferences on many subjects related to education at various. My message inspires and gives effective tools that can immediately be applied. The multimedia presentations bring my stories alive and provide a lasting and positive effect on all who hear me.
My interest in school leadership was the foundation of my dissertation. My quantitative research study used the survey method to examine principals’ perceptions of the components of successful school leadership. Although this study investigated principal perceptions of components that contribute to being a highly competent school principal at a specific organization, it was designed to be modified and replicated for use by other educational organizations.
Aside from my professional accomplishments, I am also a triathlete. Triathletes are determined, disciplined people who know how to manage time and are prepared to deal with stressful situations. Being a triathlete takes dedication and focus to keep going. I understand the importance of balance for my career, training, family, and friends. Triathletes are familiar with commitments in setting goals, creating training schedules, and planning race schedules year after year. The sport of triathlon requires attention to detail and hard work to make sure that all the pieces of the race day puzzle fit together. Triathletes are team players; we are willing to step up and help a fellow race participant and understand what it is like to be part of a community working toward a common goal. I have taken my enthusiasm for teaching and learning and applied it to the multisport world. As a student of the sport I can use my professional training to impart knowledge to others. However, what sets me apart from other “coaches” is that I am an educator who understands the intricacies of the principles and methods of teaching.
